Phase 1: Learning and Brainstorming
We will spend a day learning about the current trends in Japan, such as the tourism boom and revitalization movement, as well as the background of rural Tohoku region, especially Tono, which is our main destination for this project. We will then brainstorm ideas on how we can redesign Tono as a case study, so as to reinterpret the allures and beauties of rural Tohoku, beyond the current stereotypes.
The day will be decided on a later date, but it will fall somewhere between the end of July to the beginning of August.
Phase 2: Enjoying and Interacting
We will spend four days in Tono, exploring the vast nature of Tono, including its green mountains and beautiful rivers, visiting cultural heritages and traditional monuments. We will also be learning about the ongoing innovative projects in Tono, and doing a home stay in the farms. Enjoy an enriching experience learning about the long history, rich culture and warm people in this beautiful town of Tono. We will also be taking photos and writing articles on this town, so as to promote its tourism in a different way.
This trip will take place between 6th to 9th September 2017. Accommodation and meals will be fully covered, but you will have to pay for the transportation fees (round trip from Tokyo: about 30,000 yen; round trip from Sendai: 12,000 yen) and travel insurance (less than 500 yen). More of this will be discussed once your participation is confirmed.
Phase 3: Reflecting and Moving On
After the four days in Tono, we will reflect upon the trip, summarize our trip and move on to the next step- to compile this information in a coherent way on our website and Facebook page.
Please refer to our previous projects in Shimokawa and Yame to get a clearer idea.
